September 2020 Main Meeting - Martin Ratcliffe
Posted by Newbury Astronomy Society | Tags: september, 2020
The next Newbury Astronomical Society meeting on the first Friday in September is usually the first of the session. During the current situation we have been running Zoom meetings through the summer - very successfully. Booking speakers to give their talk on Zoom has meant I can go farther afield so NAS is now having our first talk from America!
Martin Ratcliffe has agreed to give the talk on 4th September. As some of you may know, Martin was a founder member of NAS living in Newbury at the time. After university at UCL he worked at the Armagh Planetarium before moving to America. He continued to work in the planetarium business: designing, building, training and producing planetarium shows.
He now lives in Wichita and is involved in developing astronomy education and public outreach. He has written 4 books and for many years had a monthly column in Astronomy Now magazine. He has written the same night sky column in the American Astronomy Magazine for 24 years and also contributed to other astronomy publications including the BAA Journal.
Martin is going to talk about his own observations of planets via lucky imaging and describe how he does his image processing, something he says he is trying to improve upon. So I hope as many of you as possible will be able to join the meeting to say hello to Martin and enjoy his talk.
Ann Davies, Programme Organiser
